This Sunday marks the beginning of Holy Week. For Christians, this holiest week of all draws us into the very central experiences of our faith – the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The week begins with Palm Sunday and a very strange parade into the city of Jerusalem. It is commonly called “the triumphal entry of Jesus” but what is so triumphant about a parade into the teeth of death?
Here’s a Palm Sunday message that tries to dig down into what is actually triumphant about this little parade. Maybe preachers will find some insights to help in their sermon preparation this week. Feel free to borrow anything that will assist you. Non-preachers may discover some inspiration and – I hope – an invitation to come and join the parade!
Come, Join the Parade! – Text: Mark 11:1-11
